Topic 1, Charnham Technologies
Company Background
Charnham Technologies is a US based company that provides technology services. The company
has three offices in Texas, Washington and Boston.
Existing Environment
Existing Active Directory Environment
Each office is configured as a separate Active Directory site in a single Active Directory forest
named CharnTech.com.
The domain controllers in the Washington and Boston offices run either Windows Server 2008 R2
or Windows Server 2012. The domain controllers in the Texas office still run Windows Server 2003
with Service Pack 1 (SP1). The domain controllers in each office are global catalog servers. A
domain controller named TexDC1 in the Texas office holds all the FSMO roles for the forest.
The three offices are connected by dedicated WAN links. The Texas and Boston offices have
connections to the Internet. Internet traffic from the Washington office is routed through the Texas
office Internet connection.
Exchange Server Environment
The current messaging system is comprised of the following two servers:
A server named WasExch1 in the Washington office runs Microsoft Exchange 2007. WasExch1
hosts mailboxes for users in the Washington office.
A server named BosExch2 in the Boston office runs Microsoft Exchange 2007.
BosExch2 hosts mailboxes for users in the Boston office and the Texas office.
Both servers each run the Hub Transport Server, Mailbox Server and Client Access Server roles.

Planned Changes
You plan to upgrade the Exchange infrastructure in two phases.
In Phase1, you will replace the existing two servers with two servers running Exchange 2013.
In Phase2, you will deploy additional servers to localize resources, cope with future expansion and
to add redundancy.
Phase 1.
WasExch1 will be migrated to a new Exchange 2013 Server named ExchSRV1.
BosExch1 will be migrated to a new Exchange 2013 Server named ExchSRV2.
Each server will be configured to run the Mailbox Server and Client Access Server roles.
Phase 2.
Four new servers running Exchange 2013 will be deployed.
ExchSRV3 will host the Mailbox Server role and be deployed in the Texas office.
ExchSRV4 will host the Client Access Server role and be deployed in the Texas office.
ExchSRV5 will host the Client Access Server role and be deployed in the Boston office.
ExchSRV6 will host the Client Access Server role and be deployed in the Washington office.
The mailboxes for the Texas users will then be moved to ExchSRV3.
CEO Statement
The CEO has made the following observations:
We want to migrate to Exchange 2013. However, the current two server system is not adequate
for our environment. I’ve received reports from users in Texas that it can take a long time to open
up Microsoft Outlook. This is why we have decided to implement the migration in two phases. The
first phase will be to get Exchange 2013 into our environment then the second phase will provide
us with the necessary capacity and redundancy.
Users have also reported that some emails do not reach their destination. We need this
issueresolved as a matter of urgency.
We have upgraded some of our client computers to Windows 8. I’d like the Windows 8 users to be
able to access their email using Outlook Web Access in Internet Explorer 10. Providing they have
logged in using the Private option then theyhave access totheir email while disconnected from the
Exchange server.
Technical Requirements:
Charnham Technologies have the following technical requirements for the new Exchange
infrastructure:
Antispam and antimalware filtering of emails must be enabled.
In the event of a mailbox storage database failure, any emails sent to or from the organization in
the last three days must be quickly recoverable.
The two servers running the Client Access Server role in the Boston office should be load
balanced. If a URL used to access the servers becomes unavailable, the server should be
marked offline.
In the event of a failure of the Boston office Internet connection, inbound email should use the
Texas office Internet connection.
All mailboxes in the new environment must have a size limit of 10 GB.
********************************************************************
You need to prepare the environment for the implementation of phase 1.
What changes must be made to the environment before you can install Exchange Server 2013?
A.
The operating system or service pack level of TexDC1 needs to be upgraded.
B.
The Windows 2008 R2 domain controllers in Washington and Boston need to be upgraded.
C.
A server running Exchange Server 2007 or Exchange Server 2010 needs to be installed in
Texas.
D.
The PDC emulator role needs to be transferred to a domain controller in Washington or Boston.
Explanation:
The answer is A…
The texas DC (2003 SP1) has all of the forest FSMO roles, which means it has the schema master. The schema master must be on a server 2003 SP2 or later OS.
The 2 options you have are to either move the role to another server or upgrade the server, seen as there is no option to move it (only the PDC emulator) the only other option is to upgrade the server.
Passed 70-341 last weekend with a good score of 9XX!
