From my link above:
1. Remove the Require SSL setting from the default website.
(You remove “Require SSL” from the default website, then you Enable SSL for all of the subdirectories, then configure redirection from the http://ex01/owa site to https://ex01/owa

We disable SSL on the default website, enable SSL on individual virtual directories, then configure http redirection from the default website to https://ex01.contoso.com/owa.
