Isn’t it C?

isn’t it C?

No, venture down below to see my answer.

stan

I believe it is C. D would only work if they site in question were a sharepoint site, which is not specified. In any case, adding a CNAME record would be the best solution.

You cant CNAME a root of a domain ..only subdomains can be CNAME:d

You absolutely *can* create a CNAME record for a “root of a domain”.

I guess you missed the part of the question that states “the company’s Microsoft SharePoint Online public website” 🙂

in the question they say it is a SharePoint side. so Microsoft will test if you know you can do this in o365 admin Center…so may C is correct for shure but it is an micrsoft Technologie test..so i guess for Microsoft D is the correct awnser

I think the answer is actually D. Bit of a complex setup though lol…. would be much easier to just use a sub domain…

Correct answer is D:

To use your custom domain for your SharePoint Online Public Website, and also use the domain for Exchange Online and Lync Online, follow these steps. For example, if your domain name is fourthcoffee.com, this setup will let you use [email protected] email addresses on Office 365 and have a http://www.fourthcoffee.comSharePoint Online Public Website.

1) Set up your domain with Exchange Online, Lync Online, or both
2) Get your public website ready
3) Associate your domain name with your public website
4) Create a DNS record to point your domain’s URL to your public website

Baby Jesus, you should have checked with Papa Jesus on this one. The steps you outlined are correct if you also want to change the email and im domains, but the question states “You need to configure Office 365 to redirect the website requests WITHOUT affecting the company’s email or IM.” In that case you would follow these steps:

Justin, i’m a bit conflicted with your input on this, you correct Stan with saying its D, and now Baby Jesus with C. 🙂

Khozi

How can D be the right answer? By creating a new sub domain and setting up redirection of http://contoso.com to the sub domain, how does that get redirected to the Microsoft SharePoint Online public website?
You would still need to create a CNAME record to point http://contoso.com to http://contoso.sharepoint.com, (or whatever the sharepoint sites url is) and that would still have to be done on the authoritative DNS servers.
I would say C is the right answer.

It is safe to say if you took the test you got this wrong and I apologize for now providing you with the explanation sooner.

According to course 20346B book,

Use a Custom Domain for SharePoint Online and Other Services
You must perform the following key steps to use a custom domain for your SharePoint Online Public Website, as well as your Exchange Online and Lync Online services:
ï‚· Set up your domain with Exchange Online and Lync Online. This means using the Add a domain
wizard to add your domain to Office 365 and selecting only the Exchange Online and Lync Online services as the domain purpose. Then you need to create DNS records for the Exchange Online and Lync Online services, including an MX record, a CNAME record, and a TXT record for Exchange Online, and CNAME records and SRV records for Lync Online.
ï‚· Prepare your Public Website. This means getting it ready for viewing by the public by customizing the look and feel, using the Page and Site tabs on the Public Website home page.
ï‚· Associate the domain name with your Public Website. This means using the Add a domain wizard to add your domain to Office 365 and selecting only the SharePoint Online service as the domain purpose.
 Create a DNS record to point your domain’s URL to the Public Website. This means creating a CNAME record that includes a label for your domain name that points to the URL of the Public Website.

So it’s possible that answer is C

James Tighe

The answer is definitely D.

Khozi – As someone else has said you cannot set a CNAME on a naked domain so C is wrong. You would have to setup a subdomain in order to add the CNAME.

Therefore this would make D the answer.

Add a subdomain then set it to be used with the SharePoint public site. Then add a redirect for http://contoso.com to go to the new subdomain (this redirect could be a CNAME as it can be set on the subdomain)

Justin Thompson

This article is close to providing the steps necessary to solving this problem. The main catch to this question is that email and im are already setup to use the root domain contoso.com meaning the CNAME record is already in place for contoso.com.

At this point we need a subdomain like http://www.contoso.com to be created for the site to be redirected to and a CNAME record for the new subdomain.

So the answer in my opinion would be D however as the article states the redirect from the root domain to the sub domain would more than likely be setup by your DNS hosting provider.

Pass4Sure have the answer as C on their sample page for this exam. It would be really bad if their advertisement had an incorrect answer. I don’t have time to research my self just 2 cents

The answer is of course C, why? “Contoso requires that website visitors who go to http://contoso.com be directed to the company’s Microsoft SharePoint Online **publicwebsite**.” This means that SharePoint Online already has a public website and it is not http://contoso.com not to break the original site http://contoso.com you just need to make a CNAME to that which is on Sharepoint. 🙂

Robinhood

Robinhood

The answer has to be C. You create a CNAME with your domain provider as sharepoint.domain.com. There is only one Public Sharepoint site. SO whenever people type in domain.com It redirects them to the public site.

Peter

Peter

D is correct.

A CNAME record is not allowed to coexist with any other data. by changing CNAME, how can you be sure that the Email and Lync addresses remain unchanged? The question specifically mentioned: WITHOUT affecting the company’s email or IM.

Refer to:
http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1912, section 2.4 for details.

Google

The details talked about within the article are several of the best accessible.

TechShizz

TechShizz

I’m going D.

The redirection will only redirect http traffic, leaving email and IM traffic in changed. If you created a CNAME you creating a new URL address to point to another, so that would mean giving the users a new URL? That’s not the objective. It’s D.

Tijs bouwmans

Tijs bouwmans

The steps above help make sure users can see your website when they type, for example, http://www.contoso.com. If you also want them to see your site when they type just the root domain, contoso.com, contact your DNS hosting provider and ask if they have a URL redirection service to direct traffic from contoso.com to http://www.contoso.com. Most providers offer URL redirection, and you can check their documentation to learn how to set it up.

So i think C should still be correct.
