Your network contains an Active Directory domain named contoso.com. The domain contains three member
servers. The servers are configured as shown in thefollowing table.
All client computers run Windows 8. All client computers receive updates from Server2.
On Servers, you add a shared printer named Printer1. Printer1 uses a Type 4 driver that is not included in the
Windows 8 installation media.
You need to ensure that when users connect to the printer for the first time, the printer driver is installed
automatically on their client computer.
What should you do?
A.
From the Windows Deployment Services console on Server1, add the driver package for Printer1.
B.
From the Update Services console on Server2, import and approve updates.
C.
From Windows PowerShell on Server3, run the Add-PrinterDrivercmdlet.
D.
From the Print Management console on Server3, addadditional drivers for Printer1.
I think the answer is D – Does WDS do updates on printer connections?
I agree. It’s D
The correct answer is D
I think the correct answer is B because it implies the printers could be shared on any of the servers. If Printer1 is shared on Server1, then adding the drivers to server3 won’t help; but since windows checks windows updates for drivers, adding them to Server2 will work. A penny for your thoughts?
I thought “servers” was a typo in the question, if it is not then it implies Printer1 is installed on each server.
Then getting an update from WSUS makes sense as it would be updated into each server rather than installing manually on each server.
Nevertheless, I prefer answer D.
Looks like B to me
As per the site link, Version 4 drivers are distributed via WSUS
http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2012/11/03/windows-8-windows-server-2012-what-s-new-with-printing-in-windows-8.aspx
The version 4 print driver model provides a simple but flexible management experience. Some of the benefits of version 4 drivers are:
•Printer sharing does not require the installation of drivers that match the client architecture
•Driver files are isolated from each other, preventing driver filename conflicts
•A single driver can support a single device or multiple devices
•Drivers are typically smaller than version3 drivers, and installation times are typically faster than comparable version 3 drivers
Using the version 4 driver model, OEMs can provide Print Class Drivers that support features that are common to a broad set of devices that use the same printer description language, such as PCL, PS, or XPS. Print Class Drivers also provide the following benefits:
1.Driver packages are smaller and printer driver files are less likely to cause stability problems
2.The administrator has to manage fewer drivers
Version 4 print drivers can be distributed via Windows Update or Windows Software Update Services (WSUS), but are not distributed to print clients from the print server.
D is the answer I guess as the question says “when users connect to the printer for the first time, the printer driver is installed automatically.” The fact is when you connect to a share, if additional drivers are installed, your pc will pick up appropriate driver based upon your installed OS. So you only have to ensure that the additional drivers are installed on your server. I never seen using WSUS to push printer drivers. May be its something new but still not found in articles yet:
http://titlerequired.com/2012/10/24/windows-server-2012-essentials-add-a-network-printer/
.
“At the core of the Windows Server 2012 printing experience is a new driver model known as the v4 print driver model. The v4 driver model includes changes to printer sharing known as enhanced Point and Print, eliminating the need to install cross platform drivers and eliminating the scenario where a Print Server is a driver distribution point.”
“The v4 print driver model provides a simple but flexible management experience. V4 print drivers can be distributed via Windows Update or Windows Software Update Services (WSUS), but are not distributed to print clients from the print server.”

B is correct
After reading the TechNet article on v4 Drivers, I am in favour of answer B.
B
Important points: All the clients are Windows 8, the drivers are V4, V4 drivers cannot be installed from a print server to a Windows 8+ client
The print server is no longer a software distribution mechanism. Previous versions of Windows provided a mechanism by which print clients could obtain a driver from the print server. For reasons of security, compatibility, serviceability, and reliability, this functionality has been removed from the v4 driver model and enhanced Point and Print. Downlevel client computers will still be able to receive the enhanced Point and Print Compatibility driver from Windows Server 2012 servers to enable compatibility with v4 print shares. Client computers running Windows 8 have enhanced Point and Print support built into the operating system, and they can use standard point and print mechanisms to obtain matching v3 drivers if the administrator wants to continue using older drivers. Device specific v4 drivers can also be deployed to Windows 8clients, or downloaded from Windows Update/WSUS in order to provide additional features or capabilities, such as client side rendering when connecting to enhanced Point and Print shares.
After reading this https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj134171.aspx the answer is definitely B.
The Technet says: “The v4 print driver model provides a simple but flexible management experience. V4 print drivers can be distributed via Windows Update or Windows Software Update Services (WSUS), but are not distributed to print clients from the print server.”
It clearly says v4 are distribute only through WSUS and NOT through Print Servers.
Answer is B
You can read the same here: http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2012/11/03/windows-8-windows-server-2012-what-s-new-with-printing-in-windows-8.aspx.
I think B is the correct answer.
Guys make sure you research before posting confusing answers. This just makes the whole study a lot harder as it confuses you and you don’t know which answers is correct anymore.
Ok , Just installed a v4 driver in an 2012 vm , shared it and access from my windows 10 , it installed the driver without WSUS thing.
So by TESTING as other drivers , i will stay with D.

IT’s D
B
I agree with Dave
“When a computer running Windows 8 connects to a shared print queue on the server, it checks locally for a v4 print driver that has a HardwareID that is the same as the PrinterDriverID defined in the server’s print driver. It may also check Windows Update at connection time or later for a matching driver on Windows Update. If it finds a match, the client downloads that driver and connects using client-side rendering (CSR). If the driver includes a customized UI, then that UI will be shown to the user.
Otherwise, the client connects using the enhanced Point and Print driver. ”

C is just the PowerShell that does the same as answer D…
