MBR type supports up to 2TB. Disk needs to be converted to GPT to support higher capacity.

To convert to GPT,
in CMD prompt;

diskpart
list disk
select disk #
convert gpt
list disk

still a stupid question. This could very well be a GPT disk.
Deleting the current volumes would be my first action.
