Which type of virtual hard disk should you create on the LUN?

You have a server named Server1 that runs Windows Server 2012 R2. Server1 has the Hyper-V server
role installed.
An iSCSI SAN is available on the network.
Server1 hosts four virtual machines named VM1, VM2, VM3, and VM4.
You create a LUN on the SAN to host the virtual hard drive files for the virtual machines.
You need to create a 3-TB virtual hard disk for VM1 on the LUN. The solution must prevent VM1
from being paused if the LUN runs out of disk space.

A.
Dynamically expanding VHDX

B.
Fixed-size VHDX

C.
Fixed-size VHD

D.
Dynamically expanding VHD

Explanation:
The virtual disk needs to be a VHDX file since it is going to be over 2TB in size and it must be fixedsize so that the space is already taken on the server (that way the server does not run out of space
as the volume grows) even if the actual virtual disk does not yet hold that amount of data.

“You need to create a 3-TB virtual hard disk for VM1 on the LUN” so it has to be VHDX (VHD are limited to 2TB), Since you need to make sure that the LUN doesn’t run out of space it has to be fixed because Dynamic VHDX start as a small files and it expand as much as needed and you don’t want the physical HD runs out of space or the VHDX you created will have no space to grow.

Just to add some more info: When you create a dynamically expanding VHD or VHDX, you still have to specify a disk size which will be the cap (maximun) storage size. Even if the HDD is empty and only occuping 4mb of space on the LUN, the HyperV guest sees the HDD as a “xxx” GB drive (replace X with the size in gigabytes you defined). If the LUN runs out of space, the HyperV guest won’t know it, they will continue seeing the drive as almost empty and will let you add any files to it. At the moment the HyperV guest attempts to add files to the drive and notices that the LUN hosting the VHD is full, it will enter in a paused state

Answer is B.

Max capacity for VHD is 2 TB, VM1 requires 3 TB and thus fixed-size VHDX is the correct answer.

By your explanation answer A also would be right since it also can support a 3TB vhdx. Another key is the requirement for the VM1 not to be paused when it gets to the 3TB limit.

So, at the moment I don’t know if answers A or B is the correct one.

The Answer is B because:
1 – You need 3TB of space so it’s VHDX
2 – Your machine can’t stop if SAN is out of space ==> Fixed size will already reserves the space.

Use version 5 of the test bank. It has far more discussion on it that helps with getting the right answers.

Don’t count on it. You’ll need to do a LOT of extra studying!! Microsoft is upgrading the content of most exams atm, and there’s no guarantee you’d even see 25-30 of the questions here on the test.

And how do you know that?

People, I read non of these dumps, but did all the labs on 20410D book by Microsoft and I got 60% (October 2016). Everything that you see here was on the test. I bought Microsoft practice test from MindHub.com and it didn’t help at all. So, my advice, learn everything from here and you’ll not regret it.
