Hey there! I know this is kinda off topic however , I’d figured I’d ask.
Would you be interested in trading links or maybe guest authoring a blog post
or vice-versa? My website covers a lot of the same topics as yours
and I believe we could greatly benefit from each other.
If you’re interested feel free to shoot me an e-mail. I look forward to hearing
from you! Wonderful blog by the way!
Thanks Philips. So it is: NTDSutil, Snapshot, Active Instance NTDS, Create
I disagree with this answer.
According to the following link: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731620.aspx
Before you can run the snapshot subcommand, you must run the activate instance subcommand in Ntdsutil to set an active instance. For examples of how to set an active instance, see Examples.
So, it should be :
ntdsutil
activate instance ntds
snapshot
create
Besides, I tested it on AD 2012 and it works like this (n,a,s,c).
Tested it also, “the other way” (n,s,a,c). It works the same !!
In both cases (n,a,s,c or n,s,a,c) there is a snapshot created.
Will Microsoft take both answers as correct ?
As researcher you can also do it like :
Ntdsutil activate instance ntds snapshot create
So you can eventually have a scheduled task that would run this command:
Ntdsutil activate instance ntds snapshot create quit quit
to create a daily snapshot
Interesting enough.. tried both at lab and both created with success.
NTDSUTIL
SNAPSHOT
ACTIVATE INSTANCE NTDS
CREATE
*generated successfully*
—BREAK —
NTDSUTIL
ACTIVATE INSTANCE NTDS
SNAPSHOT
CREATE
*generated successfully*
It is very correct.
This link should clear your doubts

Hmm it appears like your website ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any helpful hints for first-time blog writers? I’d really appreciate it.
