Your network contains an Active Directory forest named adatum.com. The forest contains a
single domain. The domain contains four servers. The servers are configured as shown in
the following table.
You need to update the schema to support a domain controller that will run Windows Server 2012 R2.
On which server should you run adprep.exe?
A.
Server1
B.
DC3
C.
DC2
D.
DC1
Explanation:
C) DC3 is the only server that could be assumed to be 64bit

“Also beginning with Windows Server 2012, there is only one 64-bit version of Adprep.exe. It can be run remotely from any server that runs a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008 or later.”
The answer should be DC3
Yeah, it is.
Server 2008 R2 is the only one that can definately be assumed to be running 64bit OS
Answer = B

Answer is DC3
Also beginning with Windows Server 2012, there is only one 64-bit version of Adprep.exe. It can be run remotely from any server that runs a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008 or later. The computer where you run it can be either domain-joined or in a workgroup. It includes new syntax and parameter options in order to run it remotely.

windows server 2003 R2 was in x64bit you can check it on wikipedia. And we need to update schema that is on DC1.
Active Directory Schema Update

Updating the Active Directory schema is an irreversible operation that must be performed on the schema master. The adprep /forestprep command adds Windows Server 2003 R2 object classes and attributes to Active Directory so that they can be used by the operating system, server roles, and applications.
You must update the schema before you upgrade an existing domain controller to Windows Server 2003 R2 (using Winnt32.exe) or before you add the Active Directory domain controller role on a computer running Windows Server 2003 R2 by using the Active Directory Installation Wizard (Dcpromo.exe). You must extend the schema before you perform either of these actions for the first time in an existing forest.
so answer is DC1
Yes the operating system is 64-bit but the adprep.exe on 2003 R2 x64 isn’t 64-bit. You have to use 2008, 2008 R2, or 2012 for the 64-bit version of adprep.exe.
This is most certainly a tricky situation that is hard to replicate, I do agree though Win2003 was most certainly available as 64X in R2 as mentioned above.
look at the highlighted text. It says 64-bit AND 2008 OR 2012. There is no 2003.
evoken go on techenet it will show you that windows server 2003 exist in x64bits so you can use adprep directly on it
But the adprep.exe isn’t a 64-bit version even though it runs on a 64-bit operating system.
Each version of Windows Server 2003 R2 (x86-based or x64-based) ships with a single version of Adprep on Disc 2 that is compatible only with operation masters that run that version of Windows Server 2003 R2 (x86-based or x64-based).
If your schema master is running run an x86-based version of Windows, run the x86-based version of Adprep.
If your schema master is running run an x64-based version of Windows, run the x64-based version of Adprep.

The Windows Server 2012 version of adprep.exe can run on any server that runs a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008 or later. The server needs network connectivity to the schema master for the Forest, and also to the infrastructure master of the domain where you want to add a domain controller. If either of those roles is hosted on a server that runs Windows Server 2003, then ADPREP must be run remotely. The server where you run ADPREP does not need to be a domain controller: it can be domain joined or in a workgroup.
I would go with Server 2008 and remotely chase Server 2003 for the Schema.
Answer = B. DC3
If you need to run Adprep on a 32-bit computer, run the 32-bit version (Adprep32.exe).
Can someone please tell me why this works? Don’t you have to change the Schema Master role to a different server?
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773204.aspx
According to this, AdPrep must be run on the Schema Master.
Ok, the link to the Technet article quoted in the answer says to run AdPrep on the Infrastructure Master. I’m even more confused now…
adprep /forestprep must be run on schema master
adprep /domainprep must be run on Infrastructure Master
I think B is correct from what I have researched. However this question is pointless because you don’t even have to run adprep with windows server 2012.
To expand, when you promote a 2012 server to be a DC, it runs adprep (forestprep and domainprep) for you.
You all know these tests nitpick, so if there is an alternative obscure way of doing something, the test might have questions about it.
You can have only one schema master in your Domain.
That´s why i think it has to be on DC1.
Isn`t it correct?
Weird question, DC3 is the easy answer… but i think there is more to it… so i dont know 🙁
The Question dose not state that any servers are x86 or x64!
We can assume that all are x64, then following this TechNet article
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754670(v=ws.10).aspx
To prepare a domain for Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2
Identify the domain infrastructure operations master (also known as flexible single master operations or FSMO) role holder as follows:
In the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in, right-click the domain object, click Operations Masters, and then click Infrastructure.
Log on to the infrastructure master as a member of the Domain Admins group.
Insert the Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 DVD into the CD or DVD drive.
Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right click Command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
If you are using the Windows Server 2008 DVD, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
D:\sources\adprep\adprep /domainprep /gpprep
Where D: is the drive letter of your CD or DVD drive.
If you are using the Windows Server 2008 R2 DVD, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
ImportantImportant
Windows Server 2008 R2 includes 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Adprep.exe. The 64-bit version runs by default. If you want to run one of the Adprep.exe commands on a 32-bit computer, use the 32-bit version of Adprep.exe (Adprep32.exe).
D:\support\adprep\adprep /domainprep /gpprep
Answer is still DC3 – as it holes the infrastructure operations master role!!!
