DRAG DROP
Your network contains an Active Directory forest. The forest contains a single domain named
contoso.com.
The forest contains two Active Directory sites named Main and Branch1. The sites connect
to each other by using a site link named Main-Branch1. There are no other site links.
Each site contains several domain controllers. All domain controllers run Windows Server
2012 R2. Your company plans to open a new branch site named Branch2. The new site will
have a WAN link that connects to the Main site only. The site will contain two domain
controllers that run Windows Server 2012 R2.
You need to create a new site and a new site link for Branch2. The solution must ensure that
the domain controllers in Branch2 only replicate to the domain controllers in Branch1 if all of
the domain controllers in Main are unavailable.
Which three actions should you perform?
To answer, move the three appropriate actions from the list of actions to the answer area
and arrange them in the correct order.
Explanation:
SO…the first part of this answer is:
1. Create a new site object named Branch2***When you create the new site Branch2 you will be prompted to associate it with a site
link…right now we only have one site link (Main-Branch1). Hit Finish
2. Remove Branch2 site from the Main-Branch1 Site Link
***In order to move a site into a new site link, you must first remove them from their previous
site link….In this case Branch2 was put in Main-Branch1 when we create the new site
because we didn’t have another site link to associate the new site with at the time we
created it.
3. Create a new site link object named Main-Branch2
***When you create the site link object you will be asked to place the appropriate sites in this
link…choose Main and Branch 2
Because we are using Interstice topology replication, ISTG (similar to KCC with Intrasite) will
build a logical transitive connection path between all site links because site link bridge is
enabled by default and is a Microsoft best practice to leave this default.
By default a site link has a default cost of 100 so the Main-Branch1 site cost 100. Since we
do not have a site link established from Branch2 – Branch1, ISTG will create a logical patch
that travels along the Main-Branch2 site link (cost 100) and through Main-Branch1 site
link(cost 100) to establish replication connection in the event the least cost path goes down.
Since the logical path =200, Branch2 will only replicate with Branch1 if the site link to the
Main Site goes down.
Under consideration –

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732837(v=ws.10).aspx
did not get this.. first it mentions there is no other site link except for main and branch1. so how come we get to remove branch2 from main and branch 1 link?
Create object is first..
2. Create new site link
3. Then remove
“Whenever you add sites to a newly created site link, determine if the site being added is a member of other site links, and change the site link membership of the site if needed. For example, if you make a site a member of the Default-First-Site-Link when you initially create the site, be sure to remove the site from the Default-First-Site-Link after you add the site to a new site link. If you do not remove the site from the Default-First-Site-Link, the Knowledge Consistency Checker (KCC) will make routing decisions based on the membership of both site links, which may result in incorrect routing.”
This is also my choice
Agreed, because removing the link first can cause KCC issues as you’ve mentioned.
the answer is correct as stated…when you create a new site object you have to associate it with a site link or it won’t allow you to create it. So when you create the new site object branch2 it will have to be associated with main-branch1 initially. That is why you have to remove it from main-branch1. After you remove it you then create the main-branch2 link and then you can add branch2 to the newly created link(main-branch2)
1.create
2.remove
3.create
if they was a fourth option it would be add branch2 to main-branch2 link.
Hope that’s help.
Ignore my comment above shaun is right
You’re confusing me buzz
During creation you can add the sites to the link.
shaunis wrong. i had full marks for ad section
what us right damn answer???
what’s the correct answer ???
Dont make it yourself harder on this question. Stick to the facts on the Technet sites!
Like what Bob and Shaun already says is to me correct based on what they found on site:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc732837(v=ws.10).aspx
“if you make a site a member of the Default-First-Site-Link when you initially create the site, be sure to remove the site from the Default-First-Site-Link after you add the site to a new site link”
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc794924(v=ws.10).aspx
“if you leave a manually created connection object on a server and then remove the source server for the connection, the inability of the destination server to replicate from its source replication partner will cause replication errors to be generated”
Looks very clear to my to remove the existing link in the last stage, so you dont get replication issues!
1 Create Oject
2 Create site Link
3 Remove link
This Technet article supports removing the site link first and then creating the new site link.
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc794831(v=ws.10).aspx
If you change the site topology and want to remove a site from a site link, or if you are removing a site from the enterprise, you can use this procedure to remove a site from a site link in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS). If you are adding a site to a different site link, you must first remove the site from its current site link.
I was joking with my Instructor who taught the Server 2012 class for 70-412 and said their is a division in Microsoft like their is a division in the US Government (Republicans and Democrats). Both don’t like the rules the other party is implementing and hence there is no uniform way of running the Government. Microsoft is the same. Some engineers want to implement changes from ground up and others just want to make minor changes and call it a brand new feature. Therefore the Technet articles always don’t make common sense.
My teacher’s response was some questions on the new Microsoft exams are being written by Engineers to showcase some new features they want the systems administrators to be aware of. However, reality is less than 10% of us may ever use them.
Found the same as JohnPP:
be sure to remove the site from the Default-First-Site-Link after you add the site to a new site link
So you have to create an opject, then create a site link with main and branch2, then remove branch2 from the other site link (because it is added to this during the setup of the new site)
It can be done either way round, but Microsoft recommend to add it to the new site link then remove it from the old one. Guessing this is because you may get issues if the site is removed and then added to the new one (as it is not a member of a site link between removing and adding)
In regards to why we need to remove branch2 from Main-Branch1 before creating the new site-link for Main-Branch2, this statement in the question where it says “There are no other site links”, make me think that Main-Branch1 is the Default-First-Site-Link which has been renamed as Main-Branch1. That is why after creating the new site object it is automatically added to the one and only site link available which happens to be Main-Branch1. This might explain why we need to remove Branch2 object from Main-Branch1 before creating Main-Branch2. Although as stated earlier, in practice it is equally valid to create the new site-link for Main-Branch2 and then go back and remove Branch2 from Main-Branch1 making sure it is not in both site-links.
Saying this, I stick with this order which sound safer:
1- Create New Site Object for Branch2
2- Remove Branch 2 from Main-Branch1 aka of Default-First-Site-Link
3- Create New Site link for Main-Branch2
I saw another explanation for this, think it’s very clear so, adding it here:
1. Create a new site object named Branch2
***When you create the new site Branch2 you will be prompted to associate it with a site link…right now we only have one site link (Main-Branch1). Hit Finish
2. Remove Branch2 site from the Main-Branch1 Site Link
***In order to move a site into a new site link, you must first remove them from their previous site link….In this case Branch2 was put in Main-Branch1 when we create the new site because we didn’t have another site link to associate the new site with at the time we created it.
3. Create a new site link object named Main-Branch2
***When you create the site link object you will be asked to place the appropriate sites in this link…choose Main and Branch 2
Because we are using Interstice topology replication, ISTG (similar to KCC with Intrasite) will build a logical transitive connection path between all site links because site link bridge is enabled by default and is a Microsoft best practice to leave this default. By default a site link has a default cost of 100 so the Main-Branch1 site cost 100. Since we do not have a site link established from Branch2 – Branch1, ISTG will create a logical patch that travels along the Main-Branch2 site link (cost 100) and through Main-Branch1 site link(cost 100) to establish replication connection in the event the least cost path goes down. Since the logical path =200, Branch2 will only replicate with Branch1 if the site link to the Main Site goes down.
Plz Correct me if im wrong :
first – create site object because new site is up so we must have an object that point on that site
second – we must remove the Site Branch2 from the link main-branch1 because there is no default site link only 1 site perior creating branch2 therefore the new site will automaticly be a member if main-branch1.
3rd – create a site link between site name branch 2 and main and we call it main-branch2
is that sound right ?
The answer is wrong, or at least the order in which these have to be executed (reverse the order of step 2 and 3):
– create new site
– create site link between main and and the new one
– only after this you can finally remote the new site from the main-branch site link
I totally agree with Dan
1. Create Site Object
2. Create a sitelink between main and branch
3. Remove DC’s from default-first-site-name to the desired site
according to this article
http://www.rebeladmin.com/2015/02/how-to-setup-active-directory-sites-subnets-site-links/
Well this question is so confusing because it says “arrange them in the correct order”
well first we must create a site object named Branch 2
Second we can either remove branch2 from the main-branch1 site then create a new site like object named main-branch2 or do it the other way around IT DOESNT MATTER but it is recommended to create then delete this is the logical way.
The question should say which are the 3 correct options
But, what hapen when all of the domain controllers in Main are unavailable?
It is not necessary a site link bridge?
Ok, forget my comment, “Bridge all site links” is enabled by default. So we dont need a site link bridge.
