Just checked this, when adding a site via the GUI you must add a site into a site link, but via PS the site will be “not in any” site.

Also think the second part is “move to site 1” because it’s now in that subnet?

I think the server object in Sites and Services stays where it is (you have to move it in ADS&S). I think you’re right about not being automatically added to the default site though.

Agreed.

Also tested the first part with PS and GUI site creation.

thanks a lot for the confirmations on PS and the link that shows you have to manually move the object to the site. Need a help with the following PS switch that comes with new-adreplicationsite (not sure what the default option is and how it affects the answer here):

-AutomaticInterSiteTopologyGenerationEnabled

Indicates whether the cmdlet prevents the Kerberos consistency checker (KCC) that functions as the intersite topology generator (ISTG) from generating connections for intersite replication. Use this option when you want to create manual intersite connections (disable the ISTG) but retain the KCC to generate intrasite connections.

When creating a new ad site through powershell it will not be put in any site link not even the defaul-ip-sitlink.

To configure an Active Directory site named ‘Second-Site’ using the built-in DEFAULTIPSITELINK:
New-ADReplicationSite -Name “Second-Site”
Set-ADReplicationSiteLink -Identity “DEFAULTIPSITELINK” -sitesIncluded @{Add=”Second-Site”}

So the answer is Not in Any,
and, Remain in Site2?

Yes, despite you physically moved DC2, you still have to move it in ADDS, if you don’t do this it will remain where it was first.
