You need to ensure that you can start VM1 on Server1 if Server2 fails

Your network contains two servers named Server1 and Server2 that run Windows Server 2012 R2.
Both servers have the Hyper-V server role installed. Server1 and Server2 are located in different
offices. The offices connect to each other by using a high-latency WAN link.
Server2 hosts a virtual machine named VM1.
You need to ensure that you can start VM1 on Server1 if Server2 fails. The solution must minimize
hardware costs.
What should you do?

Server2 hosts a virtual machine named VM1.
You need to ensure that you can start VM1 on Server1 if Server2 fails. The solution must minimize
hardware costs.
What should you do?

A.
On Server1, install the Multipath I/O (MPIO) feature. Modify the storage location of the VHDs for
VM1.

B.
From the Hyper-V Settings of Server2, modify the Replication Configuration settings. Enable
replication for VM1.

C.
On Server2, install the Multipath I/O (MPIO) feature. Modify the storage location of the VHDs for
VM1.

D.
From the Hyper-V Settings of Server1, modify the Replication Configuration settings. Enable
replication for VM1.

Explanation:
You first have to enable replication on the Replica server–Server1–by going to the server and
modifying the “Replication Configuration” settings under Hyper-V settings. You then go to VM1–
which presides on Server2– and run the “Enable Replication” wizard on VM1.

A bit of a strange way to word the answer.
D.From the Hyper-V Settings of Server1, modify the Replication Configuration settings. Enable replication for VM1.

The first sentence makes sense, but the second sentence “Enable replication for VM1.” needs to be done on Server2, not Server1.

Given the choices, I agree that D is right but its just the best answer available and is technically wrong.

The answer does not state the you configure the VM on Server 1. The period is important in that answer. 🙂 It doesn’t specify which server to perform that step on. Tricky.

as Explanation, should be B

in this case server1 is the replica server and you have to enable replication on the replica server.

so D is correct.

Wrote my 70-412 exam few days ago and passed with a good score!

File and Storage Solutions and Identity and Access Solutions (ADFS, RMS, etc.) were the most difficult parts of the 70-412 exam.

Some study materials that I used:

Books:
Microsoft Official Academic Course: Configuring Advanced Windows Server 2012 R2 Services (highly recommend, for it has more details and more Powershell and more sensible labs than other boos)

Mastering Windows Server 2012 R2

Windows Server 2012 R2: Inside-Out

Training Videos:
Pluralsight

Practice Tests:
PassLeader 70-412 exam dumps (pdf and vce: https://tr.im/Dkbt1, I got it with 10% free), really helpful for testing my knowledge before taking real exam.

All are just FYI, hope all can pass the exam easily. Good Luck!

given answer is correct! If you have actually read the 412 material and not just dumped it you will know that replication needs enabling on the target host!

The fact that server2 is the primary server here is just a spanner in the works. Attention to detail.

Answer is D – I am taking the exam in the morning so I will be reporting back.
