A company has servers that run Windows Server 2012 R2. The company has one Active Directory Domain
Services (AD DS) domain.
A user reports that USB devices are not redirected when he uses the Virtual Machine Connection tool to
connect to a virtual machine USB device redirectionworks for other users that connect to this VM.
You need to ensure that USB devices are redirected for all users when they connect to this VM.
What should you do?
A.
Add the user as a member of the Administrators group on the VM.
B.
Ensure that the Allow enhanced session mode setting is set to Enabled on the VM.
C.
Ensure that the Remote Desktop Services service is running on the VM.
D.
Add the user as a member of the Administrators group on the AD DS domain.
I think, it’s B
In Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V, now there is support for USB device in Hyper-V guest VMs with a new feature called Virtual Machine Connection- Enhanced Session Mode. With this feature, Hyper-V can now redirect local resources to a virtual
machine sessions through Virtual Machine Connection tool. It all happens not over network connection, that’s why it’s different than normal Remote Desktop. It uses a Remote Desktop Connection session via the virtual machine bus (VMBus), so no network connection to the virtual machine is required. Therefore, we attach a USB device to the Hyper-V Host and then access that USB device from the Hyper-V guest VMs as well as files and pictures from Hyper-V Host to VMs and vice-versa, very easily over this connection. Until now, only the guest operating systems Windows Server 2012 R2 Preview and Windows 8.1 Preview supported enhanced session mode connections. Future releases should support at least Windows Server 2008 R2 till the final release of Windows Server 2012 R2, let’s hope. This feature will help make administrators’ life a little easier while installing new software and /or easily copy files into the Hyper-V virtual machines through USB device and vice-versa.

Yes i would go with “B”
Because, why would add user in Administrator Group for just using USB drive.. never..
and agree with MCSE Explain..!!
As others have clearly pointed out, answer B cannot be the correct answer, as USB device redirection is working fine for other users. Only one user is experiencing this issue. Answers B and C cannot be correct therefore. That leaves us with answers A and D, of which the correct answer is A.
Yes, my first thought was also A but in the question is says: “A user reports… redirection works for other users that connect to this VM”, so in this case it should be enabled as you can’t restrict it to some of the users but i don’t see any other answers close to the solution 😉
The following guest operating systems support enhanced session mode connections:
Windows Server 2012 R2
Windows 8.1
Additionally, Remote Desktop Services needs to be running, and the user account you use to sign in to the virtual machine needs to be a member of the :
Remote Desktop Users local group or the local Administrators group.
A is the answer
I think A is the correct answer, its one person and he is using the Virtual Machine Connection tool (enhanced session mode?). So its working fine for other workers. it must be a right issue. So boeing is right
Answers is “A” because:
Remote Desktop Services needs to be running, and the user account you use to sign in to the virtual machine needs to be a member of the Remote Desktop Users local group or the local Administrators group.
Not B: Since other users are able to access the USB on that SAME VM, the Enhanced Session Mode is enabled.
Not C: same as above
Not D: requirement is to be part of the LOCAL administrators group
Answer is A. As other users can connect and access USB devices then B and C must already be done. You do not need to be a domain admin so D is incorrect.
Virtual Machine Connection – Enhanced Session Mode Overview
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn282274.aspx
Additionally, Remote Desktop Services needs to be running, and the user account you use to sign in to the virtual machine needs to be a member of the Remote Desktop Users local group or the local Administrators group.
The following local resources can be redirected when using Virtual Machine Connection.
– Display configuration
– Audio
– Printers
– Clipboard
– Smart cards
– USB devices
– Drives
– Supported Plug and Play devices
Server settings
The Enhanced Session Mode Policy setting affects all virtual machines on the server running Hyper-V. The Allow enhanced session mode setting determines whether to allow enhanced session mode connections to virtual machines on the server running Hyper-V. If this setting is enabled, Hyper-V allows enhanced session mode connections to a virtual machine when the following conditions are met:
– An enhanced session mode connection has been requested by Virtual Machine Connection.
– The virtual machine is running an operating system that supports enhanced session mode.
– Remote Desktop Services is running on the virtual machine
User settings
The Enhanced Session Mode setting determines if Virtual Machine Connection attempts to use enhanced session mode when available in a guest operating system. When Use enhanced session mode is enabled, device redirection takes place when the following conditions are met:
– Allow enhanced session mode is enabled on the server running Hyper-V.
– The virtual machine is running an operating system that supports enhanced session mode.
– Remote Desktop Services is running on the virtual machine.
Answer is B, because:

@Dirk : like others have pointed out already , it works for others .. so enchanced session mode is already enabled ..
Its possible that he needs to be admin to install a driver for the USB device .. I doubt but its a MS question so logical sense doesn’t always work..
I agree the answer is A because to others users the usb is working, the problem is permission user.
