Explanation:
Rendezvous conferences are also called meet-me, permanent, or static conferences. There are three basic
types of conferences:
Ad-hoc
Rendezvous
Scheduled
Ad-hoc conferences are also known as unscheduled or on-demand conferences. An ad-hoc conference can be
created simply by adding a third participant to a point-to-point call. MultiSite and Multiway can be used for adhoc conferences. MultiSite uses a phone’s native multipoint control unit (MCU) functionality and allows up to
four simultaneous participants on a video call. Multiway uses a centralized Cisco MCU and Cisco Video
Communication Server (VCS); the number of simultaneous participants is limited only by the MCU. To
participate in an ad-hoc conference, simply press the Conf, Join, cBarge, or Add keys on the endpoint.
Rendezvous conferences can be onetime conferences or recurring conferences. Unlike ad-hoc conferences,
rendezvous conferences must be configured; unlike scheduled conferences, rendezvous conferences do not
need to be scheduled and resources are not guaranteed. You can use a preconfigured alias, an MCUinteractive voice response (IVR) dial-in, or Meet-Me to initiate a rendezvous video conference on Cisco Unified
Communications Manager (CM); Cisco VCS supports only preconfigured aliases and MCUIVR dial-ins. The
conference organizer must provide the dial-in alias or MCUIVR dial-in number to the participants.
Scheduled conferences guarantee endpoint and MCU resource availability. In addition, calendaring applications
can be used to schedule conferences. Several methods can be used to initiate a scheduled video conference
on Cisco VCS or Cisco Unified CM, including automatic connect and one button to push (OBTP). When the
automatic connect launch method is used, endpoints are automatically connected at the scheduled conference
time. When OBTP is used, conference dial-in information is displayed on endpoints that support the OBTP
feature.Cisco: Cisco Rich Media Conferencing: Types of Conferences
