Cisco Unity Connection Dial Plan
Similar to CUCM, CUC also has dial plan components that allow the implementation
of restrictions related to callers being able to send messages to other users (or system
entities) as defined by the organization’s messaging policy. For example, an organization
could have a requirement that users cannot leave voice messages for directors and above.
In such cases, partitions can be used to segregate the following objects:
■ Contacts
■ Call handlers (system, directory, and interview handlers)
■ Distribution lists
■ Users
Partitions define who or what can be reached, search spaces (equivalent to CUCM CSS),
and define by whom or what partitions are reachable.
Search spaces can be assigned to any object that can initiate a call or a user that can
address a message to another user or entity. Partitions can be assigned to various search
spaces to ensure that the call restrictions are in place for system entities and subscribers
(users). The following objects can be assigned to a search space:
■ Call handlers (system and directory handlers)
■ Routing rules
■ Users
To create a new partition or search space, go to the Cisco Unity Connection
Administration page and click Dial Plan in the navigation pane on the left. From there,
you can define new partitions and search spaces. The system default partition and search
space are created during CUC installation and must be replaced with appropriate partitions
or search spaces as required for call handlers, contacts, users, and so on. To set
up CUC to use any new defined partition and search space as a default partition, go to
System Settings > General Configuration and replace the default partition and search
space. Once configured, any user or entity created inherits the newly defined partition
and search space.
