There is a key difference between “VTP Configuration” and “VLAN Configuration”.
Switches in the client and server mode can save VLAN configuration in the vlan.dat file on flash memory, but VTP client switches save VTP configurations (like VTP domain or VTP password) only in the running_config on RAM, while VTP server switches can store VTP configurations in both RAM and NVRM memory (running_config & startup_config respectively)
