Confused! I interpret “two methods” in the question as a method 1 or method 2, not method 1 and 2.

If it’s a single OSPF area design, how can route summarization be implemented on the ABRs? There are zero ABRs.

If I implement multi-area OSPF only then I can implement route summarization on the ABR.
