Using a combination of a fingerprint reader and retina scanner is considered how many factors of
authentication?

Mike

Mike

That is one factor (two things that you are). A factor is only one of three things: something you have, something you are, or something you know.

A PIN, username and password, Security Question, passphrase, etc. are all something you know.

A fingerprint, retinal pattern, voice print, & facial features are something you are.

A key card, security token, etc. are something you have.

If you sign in using a PIN, username and password, Security Question, and a passphrase, that is single factor authentication because these are all things you know.

If you sign in using a PIN and your fingerprint, that is two factor authentication because this is something you know and something you are.

Three factor authentication would be, for example, speaking a passphrase (something you know) into a voice print analyzer (something you are) and swiping a key card (something you have).
