How would you verify if a website is authentic or not?

An Attacker creates a zuckerjournals.com website by copying and mirroring HACKERJOURNALS.COM site to spread the news that Hollywood actor Jason Jenkins died in a car accident. The attacker then submits his fake site for indexing in major search engines. When users search for "Jason Jenkins", attacker’s fake site shows up and dupes victims by the fake news.

This is another great example that some people do not know what URL’s are. Real website:

Fake website: http://www.zuckerjournals.com

The website is clearly not WWW.HACKERJOURNALS.COM. It is obvious for many, but unfortunately some people still do not know what an URL is. It’s the address that you enter into the address bar at the top your browser and this is clearly not legit site, its www.zuckerjournals.com

D. cannot be correct in this question. As it states, he submits the site for indexing into major search engines. Therefore, using a link from Google would take you to the malicious site. A. could be argued, but if you are smart enough to determine whether the SSL Cert is legit, you should be able to tell from the web address.

Steve: For example if your website does not have SSL, the answer D is correct, but if your website has SSL, so A is correct.. Sorry for my ingles.

Here only D is correct answer because not all website uses ssl. And here we have to open the website and look the url of that website after that we can figure out if it is real or not. Looking for url is the thing we have to do for these type os sites.

It is valid to note that the website name is “zuckerjournals”. so a person who is going to search in the google is going to search for the zuckerjournals and will get the http://www.zuckerjournals.com.

However, if he is going to search for the “Jason Jenkins”, he will find the “WWW.HACKERJOURNALS.COM”.

Sorry Krishn
In the text, you can see:
When users search for “Jason Jenkins”, attacker’s fake site shows up and dupes victims by the fake news.

Is the user search “WWW.HACKERJOURNALS.COM”, he can find it, but is you
indexing search engines, and used “Jason Jenkins” by serch, google wont be the best option.

I think the answer A it’s correct.

The answer D is correct. The scenario is not described at its best. They have not shown how the search result came through. The result would have shown “Hackers Jounral” as the title based on intitle name but website will direct to URL juckersjournal. The idea is, before you click on the link, search again for the name in title “hackers journal” in new google search, which will then bring the authentic website where you wont see the news. Hope this clarifies. I still go with answer D here as other answer doesn’t match.
