Which of the following is a preventive control?
A.
Smart card authentication
B.
Security policy
C.
Audit trail
D.
Continuity of operations plan
A
Why?
It is designed to prevent unauthorised access. Security policy, continuity of operations are procedural measures (written policies that rely on being followed by people ie don’t do anything by themselves). Audit trail is detective measure – it just records what has happened.
Only Smart Cards are there to actually prevent random people from accessing the system.
I think in negative terms.

Security controls can be categorized by the time it takes to enact them based on a security incident (preventive, detective, or corrective) or by their nature (physical, technical, or administrative).
