A certified ethical hacker (CEH) is approached by a friend who believes her husband is cheating.
She offers to pay to break into her husband’s email account in order to find proof so she can take
him to court. What is the ethical response?
A.
Say no; the friend is not the owner of the account.
B.
Say yes; the friend needs help to gather evidence.
C.
Say yes; do the job for free.
D.
Say no; make sure that the friend knows the risk she’s asking the CEH to take.
D
D seems to be the correct answer.
I disagree. I think it’s A because the reason listed is exactly -why- it’s nto ethical according to CEH standards and laws in the US and other countries.
It’s A. You need the Authorization of the owner.
D doesn’t explain why it is wrong, only the consequences to you (the CEH) personally.
Of course, in reality, you are likely to give an explanation that includes A and D – “I can’t do this because it is unethical. I need the consent of the account owner. You are asking me to do something illegal. I am not comfortable with this. Is there a different way to go about this?”
