which is then used to boot Oracle Linux?

Which two statements are true concerning the installation and configuration of the bootloader by
the Anaconda installer, which is then used to boot Oracle Linux?

Which two statements are true concerning the installation and configuration of the bootloader by
the Anaconda installer, which is then used to boot Oracle Linux?

A.
The Linux Loader (LILO) bootloader may be chosen for installation.

B.
The bootloader must be password protected and Anaconda prompts for a password in all
cases.

C.
The Grand Unified Bootloader (GRUB) is the only bootloader used by Oracle Linux.

D.
If previously installed operating systems are found on disk partitions that were not overwritten,
then an attempt is made to configure the bootloader to be able to boot them.

E.
The bootloader is installed by default in the first partition of the disk.

Explanation:
A (not C): Linux boot process from hard drive:
1. PC initializion phase – BIOS, POST.
2. PC starts boot loader – usually grub or lilo.
3. The bootloader locates kernel image on the hard drive.
4. The kernel decompresses and loads itself. Once finished it tries to mount the root filesystem. 5.
When the root filesystem is mounted, /sbin/init is executed and continues booting the system using
inittab and /etc/rc*.d scripts

That guide is for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1
In Red Hat 6 the only bootloader available is GRUB.

https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Installation_Guide/s1-x86-bootloader.html

“GRUB (GRand Unified Bootloader), which is installed by default, is a very powerful boot loader.”

“Note that the version of GRUB in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 is an old and stable version now known as “GRUB Legacy” since upstream development moved to GRUB 2.”

“By default, the installation program installs GRUB in the master boot record or MBR, of the device for the root file system. To decline installation of a new boot loader, unselect Install boot loader on /dev/sda.”

Aureal, the oracle documentation about the Oracle Linux 6 installation link is:

http://linux.oracle.com/documentation/OL6/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux-6-Installation_Guide-en-US.pdf

So, I still think the correct answers are C and D.

I would go for C and E.

By elimination, A is out because OEL6 will not give you option to choose Boot Loader.

B is out because the password is optional and can be set from grub.conf after installation.

As for D, I did a fresh installation on a different disk and GRUB on the existing disk was over-written.

Oracle Linux uses the GRand Unified Bootloader (GRUB), which is installed by default in the MBR of the disk that contains /boot.

did anyone attend this exam? Is it a valid dump?

Answer: A and D

Reason: Not C, because GRUB is standard and default bootloader of Oracle Linux and also widely supported. But this means, there is always an option to use another bootloader. Anaconda Installer does allow you with an option.
Refer to Pg 116 in http://linux.oracle.com/documentation/OL6/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux-6-Installation_Guide-en-US.pdf

A: LILO being another bootloader “may be” chosen for installation

Not B: A bootloader may be password protected, but not the Anaconda installer, rather the bootloader program would prompt you for password. And that too definitely not during the installation which is what Anaconda is for. For instance, GRUB password is asked for whenever an attempt is made to select to Edit any of the boot parameters.

D: Part of the job of any installer is to detect previously installed OS and disks. The “Upgrade Dialog” does exactly that for OS. Please refer Pg 116 of http://linux.oracle.com/documentation/OL6/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux-6-Installation_Guide-en-US.pdf

Not E: Finally the answer which has been the most deceptive. The bootloader is by default saved in the MBR, which is the first “sector” of a disk.

Your inputs to the above answer would be highly appreciated.

Thank you Djuro and Vasben. I took notes from your answers πŸ™‚

Solaris11

Solaris11

a) Many bootloaders are available. The most common bootloaders for Linux are LILO (LInux LOader) and GRUB (GRand Unified Bootloader). Oracle Linux uses the GRUB bootloader.
e) The bootloader is by default saved in the MBR, which is the first β€œsector” of a disk

C and D

not A, this is oracle linux not redhat, oracle linux not show lilo option
not B, the password is optional
not E, the mbr is in the first sector of the disk not the first partition

This is not a valid dump. I have written the exam last year and not even a single question came. Has anyone written this recently ?

I just passed it successfully on 25-Feb-2016 and I can confirm that most of the questions I got (around 55) are included in this dump. Attention: check carefully all the comments done in this dump as the correct answers for these questions are in the comments and not in the official answers… πŸ˜‰

How can someone be sure which is the correct answer after all? I failed today and I am just wondering because I read this dump really well. But not the comments.

i passed the exam on 26-Feb-2016. I got 44 question from the dump, but this is not enough to pass the exam.

I took the exam today 4 March 2016. I’ll share some opinions maybe you’ll find them useful.
The exam consist in 80 questions and the passing score is 61%. I passed with 66% and a friend of mine with 65%. The questions in this dump cover around 40-50% from the actual pool of the exam. So if you base exclusively on the dump you will fail . The answers from comment section of this dump are most likely to be correct although there are a lot of interpretation and sort of saying between them . I tested most of them and searched for doc and seem ok.In the exam the choices will not be in the same order as in the dump. As of the other questions which are not found in the dump most of them were single choice . Another thing I think the multiple choice questions are weighted different than single choice. As a conclusion , the dump is a good starting point , but you need also knowledge , common sens and lots of luck :).

Good luck with the exam.

a subset of bootloader is written to MBR but the remainder is write to /boot partition. Then C, E is correct.

I just pass today 28-4-2016 70%. I think around 25-25 question is covered. Other 50-55 you have to remember yourself.

Hi Guys, did you pass recently this exam? Could you kindly tell something about the questions on it?

I hope this is helpful::

I took exam today (02/10/2017) and got 69%. exam is 80 questions and around 40 questions are covered from this dump. I studied this dump. Dump answers are incorrect. Follow comments answers. I was following mostly answers from = Vasben, Djuro and Jef Adams.

Study this dump which will be 50% helpful in exam, the rest of the questions in exam are easy.
I have less than 1year experience in Oracle linux 6 and 3 years experience in solaris 10
