I know some of these get picky. DRS in vSphere 6 stands for “distributed” resource scheduler not “Dynamic” resource scheduler. See http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/features.html
What is the correct answer?
I understand in vSphere 6.x, Fault Tolerance does not require shared storage, so I know that is not one of them. I understand that Distributed Power Management and Distributed Resource Scheduler also require shared storage, however, the answers only show Distributed Power Management, and not DISTRIBUTED Resource Scheduler.
Dynamic Resource Scheduler is not a feature in vSphere 6.x, but Distributed Resource Scheduler is. It would also make sense that a vSphere Distributed Switch and Storage Policy Based Management would also require shared storage.
Someone please confirm the answers, or at least advise if the answers were typed incorrectly.
I decided to go with Distributed Power Management, Dynamic Resource Scheduler, and Storage Policy Based Management. I can’t find documentation advising that Distributed Switches require shared storage. I know for sure in vSphere 6.x does NOT require shared storage for the Fault Tolerance feature. I hope that’s correct. :S
I agree with B, C, D. DPM is a feature of DRS, so by default it would also require shared storage.
C,D,E How would the server work on another host with all hosts seeing the storage.
Without shared storage DRS wouldn’t work or power management as the other hosts wouldn’t be able to run the VM.
FT can have both VMs on the same storage but it is not recommended
I agree with you Ant, FT doesnt require shared storage as well as distributed switches (they only require multiple hosts) so only choices left are C, D and E. DPE and DRS require shared storage so VMs can start on another host, just storage Policy based management im not sure since you can implent it on Virtual SAN which in turn can be comprise only of local storages on multiple hosts…

So Id go with B,C and D like all the others at beginning…

I agree with Mauricio, the link he gave they do say those features rely on shared storage. I think the thing the eliminates SPBM from the mix is that it can be used with dedicated as well as shared storage and as such it is not a requirement.
Of course as noted the name of DRS is Distributed NOT dynamic so this could just be trickery!!!

Storage
