Explanation from official course:
FCoE: The Fibre Channel traffic is encapsulated into Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) frames. These FCoE frames are converged with other types of traffic on the Ethernet network. By carrying both Ethernet and Fibre Channel traffic on the same Ethernet link, the utilization of the physical infrastructure has greatly increased. FCoE also reduces the total number of network ports and cabling.

More people lean toward A although Technically its wrong IMHO. You are reducing the amount of SAN ports used in the SAN environment by using FCoE and technically you will if anything increase the amount of ports you use in your network environment. Note as Bad question and move on 🙂 go with A it’s the best bad answer.

I agree with Yappy, The FCoE wouldn’t solve to the question since each adaptor would require a network port. All you gain with FCoE is the ability to use converged switching like a Nexus series switch. Fiber Channel is a dedicated fiber fabric and it is an actual “storage protocol” which I am not sure if “Virtual SAN” is a storage protocol or a VMware software offering. All in all its a crap question and I hope they dont put it on the test.

And Virtual SAN is a product feature, not a protocol. NFS can also use the vmkernel interfaces to connect to shares, so Im unsure why vSAN is the answer here.

I dont see why “C” Fibre Channel is not the correct answer as it doesnt uses ethernet (Ethernet port =Network port) by it own FC Fabric…

My two cents.

Assuming the question is worded correctly and by network ports we mean “LAN/IP” ports
. FCoE would not do anything to reduce the number of network ports, in fact it could only increase the number of network ports you need

FC on the contrary will reduce te number of network ports as it uses its own FC network.

But I suspect the term “network” ports refer to both type of networks IP/FC so The only protocol that only help to reduce the number of ports would be FCoE.

If it appears in the exam I would go with A
