What are three benefits of using a few large-capacity LUNs instead of many small-capacity LUNs? (Choose
three.)

A.
Better performance because there is less contention for a single volume.

B.
More flexibility for resizing virtual disks.

C.
Less wasted storage space.

D.
More flexibility to create virtual machines without adding new LUNs.

E.

Thanks for the link. After reading it I still think “C – Less wasted storage space” should be considered a benefit of fewer larger LUNs.

I may have 5 small LUNs with 100GB left on them, which won’t be enough to accommodate a 300GB vmdk. If instead I had 1 LUN with the same 500GB left on it, the 300GB vmdk would fit nicely.

For the exam I guess I won’t have a choice, but in real life it’s a different story.

If you would use thin provisioning on the storage it wouldn’t matter if you’d add another LUN for the new 300GB VM. In the end the used space adds up to the same result as using one large LUN – therefore C doesn’t work whereas the others do.

LOL again you guys are the full package 😀 Man read the question again ! It says “What are three benefits of using a FEW large-capacity LUNs INSTEAD OF many small-capacity LUNs?

In other words MORE BIG, LESS SMALL !!!

Now you’re beginning your reply with “should be considered a benefit of FEWER larger LUNs”… So you are actually thinking something based on a wrong understanding of the question.

Then comes your high level explanation which has NOTHING to do with the choice “less wasted storage”. It’s not because on one side you have 100Gb spread on multiple datastores, on the other that you have 500Gb free on 1 and thus allowing to create an -assuming- thick vmdk of 300Gb that you are actually “wasting” space !!! It’s just an “organisational” issue, nothing else ! Man open a dictionary because if you’re unable to understand basic english, why the fuck are you learning an english exam ? Please do yourself a favor…

Alvo,

If you check VMware documentation you will find the following
“You might want more, smaller LUNs for the following reasons:

Less wasted storage space.”

Wasted storage space is a real thing. But in that question it is not correct since it asks about fewer bigger LUNs

You might want fewer, larger LUNs for the following reasons:

– More flexibility to create virtual machines without asking the storage administrator for more space.

– More flexibility for resizing virtual disks, doing snapshots, and so on.

– Fewer VMFS datastores to manage.
