A new LUN has been provisioned to all hosts in a vSphere 5.x cluster. On one host a new VMFS
datastore has been created.
How will the new datastore be discovered by the other ESXi 5.x hosts?
A.
A rescan of all host bus adapters is periodically performed by ESXi hosts to detect new VMFS
datastores.
B.
New VMFS volumes are automatically added to members of a cluster by vCenter 5.
C.
A manual refresh is required on each ESXi 5.x hosts to discover new VMFS datastores.
D.
A refresh of all host bus adapters is periodically performed by ESXi hosts to detect new VMFS
datastores.
I think B is correct, In my lab when I create a new VMFS datastore automatically appears in the other hosts
C is correct
Either A or B is the answer. Refresh doesn’t scan storage because it only updates the GUI. Rescan actually scans for changes in storage.
It’s C: http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-4-esxi-installable-vcenter/index.jsp#managing_san_systems/c_using_rescan.html
“When you perform VMFS datastore management operations, such as creating a VMFS datastore or RDM, adding an extent, and increasing or deleting a VMFS datastore, your host or the vCenter Server automatically rescans and updates your storage. You can disable the automatic rescan feature by turning off the Host Rescan Filter. See Turn off vCenter Server Storage Filters.”
Since the rescan is automatic, that just means you have to refresh.
Correct answer are “C” – 100%, it is tested.
Explanation:
“A”, “D” – 100% wrong. “… LUN has been provisioned to all hosts …”, therefore any actions with host bus adapters it isn’t required.
“B” or “C” – the practical test specifies on “С”.
Correct answer are “B” – 100%, it is tested.
I apologize, I confused, Rafa is right, and my test showed that automatically there is Rescan on all hosts in a cluster, that is the correct answer of B
B is correct. I presented over 100 lung to cluster. Once you do one node, the rest populate automaticaaly.
i agree with you i too tested in my lab and i get B as the answer but all documentation i read indicates C. i think its another poorly worded question. anyone has other explanations?
A datastore on the SCSI-based storage device is created. If you use the vCenter Server system to manage your hosts, the newly created datastore is automatically added to all hosts.
