A system administrator is unable to clone a windows 2008 server while connected directly to an
ESXi host through vSphere Client.
Which two methods can be used to complete the task? (Choose two.)
A.
Connect to vCenter Server and retry the operation.
B.
Use VMware Converter to perform the operation.
C.
Connect to the host using the Web Client and retry the operation.
D.
Use VMware Configuration Manager to perform the operation.
Explanation:
A & b are correct
You must be connected to vCenter Server in order to clone a virtual machine. You cannot clone virtual machines if you connect directly to an ESXi host.

Prior to manually moving or copying virtual machine disk files, consider using existing VMware features which can accomplish similar desired results. These VMware features include:
Converting virtual machines with VMware Converter. For more information, see the VMware Converter Standalone Documentation.
Converting virtual machines with VMware vCenter Converter. For more information, see the VMware vCenter Converter Administration Guide for your VMware product version.
Live Migrate, Cold Migrate, Clone, or Storage vMotion with VMware vCenter or VMware VirtualCenter. For more information, see the Migrating Virtual Machines in the Basic System Administration Guide for your VMware product version.
Backing up virtual machines with VMware Consolidated Backup. For more information, see the Virtual Machine Backup Guide for your VMware product version.
a and b are no doubt correct. i would say option c has validity but the version was not specified so we cant assume sso was enabled
It’s not possible to connect directly to an ESXi host with the Web Client. When using Web Client, you have to connect to vCenter Server.
Yo! Mike! 🙂 We can access an ESXi host with web client, using vSphere host web client/ ESXI Embedded Host Client; but there are some/ relatively a lot limitations and issues using it.
How exactly do you clone a vm using the VMware converter? Or is this question a 2 sided question where the machine is a VM for the A answer and a physical machine for the B answer?
