A customer needs to size a single backup appliance for backing up 3TB of data. There is no
requirement for guest level backups of SQL and Exchange.
What is the minimum VMware Data Protection solution and sizing that would fulfill the stated
requirements?
A.
VMware Data Protection Advanced with a 4TB backup appliance
B.
VMware Data Protection with a 4TB backup appliance
C.
VMware Data Protection Advanced with a 3TB backup appliance
D.
VMware Data Protection with a 3TB backup appliance
Explanation:
A is correct
VDP Advanced allows dynamic capacity growth (unlike VDP). For example, you can start with a VDP Advanced appliance that is configured with 2TB of de-duplicated backup data capacity and grow that capacity to 4TB, 6TB or 8TB when needed. It is also possible to migrate from VDP to VDP Advanced and preserve existing VDP backup data.

There is no requirement for guest level backups of SQL and Exchange. – So you don’t need Advance.
And there is only 3 Tb of data.
Why answer is not D ?
I thought it was D but if you read the tech data for VDP http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/features-data-protection
It says :
Three configurations of backup storage capacity are available: 0.5 TB, 1 TB and 2 TB, which consume 850 GB, 1,300 GB and 3,100 GB of storage capacity, respectively.
Therefore the answer must be to use VDPA but I’m unsure if it is answe A or answer C as the minimum requirement is 3TB then I guess it’s answer C
VDP goes up to 2TB, we need 3TB that’s why you choose VDPA.
VDPA can be setup as 2TB, 4TB, 6TB or 8TB. We need at least 3TB, so 4TB is the minimum.
Answer A is Correct.

thanks Bart!
The 2TB from standard VDP is deduped, so probably hold 2TB of data without going VDPa surely?
Meant 3tb not 2tb from original question.
