Which approach should the administrator take to expand the Virtual SAN Cluster?

An administrator has created a Virtual SAN Cluster using Automatic Mode Disk Groups. There is
very little storage space left in the cluster. The administrator has access to an iSCSI storage array.

Which approach should the administrator take to expand the Virtual SAN Cluster?

A.
Add new hosts to the cluster with available local disks then click the Claim Disks icon in the
Disk Management section under the Virtual SAN tab.

B.
Add new disks to the hosts in the cluster then click the Claim Disks icon in the Disk
Management section under the Virtual SAN tab.

C.
Add new hosts to the cluster with available local disk. No further action is required to claim the
added storage.

D.
Provision new LUNs on the iSCSI storage and present one LUN to each host in the cluster. No
further action is required to claim the added storage.

C is correct

Add new ESXi hosts to the cluster or move existing inventory hosts in to the cluster without disrupting any ongoing operations. New cluster members add storage and compute capacity. If you use Virtual SAN in automatic mode, local storage disks on the new cluster member will be automatically aggregated into a disk group and claimed by the Virtual SAN datastore.

iSCSI (tipical(!) VMWare questionnaire) is NOT supported by Virtual SAN Cluster! (Rules out D.)
Automatic Mode Disk Groups (Rules out “click the Claim Disks” A. AND B.) 😉
So this leaves C. as the right answer. (If you use Virtual SAN in automatic mode, local storage disks on the new cluster member will be automatically aggregated into a disk group and claimed by the Virtual SAN datastore.)

Also remember to provision a 1:10 ratio for SSD:HDD.

Have to pay close attention to the question. It does not ask how to provide more disk space to the vSphere cluster in which you could use an iSCSI SAN separately from the vSAN; it asks how to “expand the Virtual SAN Cluster” in which you are restricted specific kinds of DAS on the hosts.
