This answer is wrong. The correct answer is (D. Same features).

Nevermind, I am wrong, it is C. Same Manufacturer

Same Manufacturer is really vague answer. I have to assume it means CPU.

I think that “C” is the corresct answer.

Processor Compatibility Requirements

vMotion transfers the running architectural state of a virtual machine between underlying ESXi hosts. vMotion compatibility means that the processors of the destination host must be able to resume execution using the
equivalent instructions where the processors of the source host were suspended. Processor clock speeds and cache sizes might vary, but processors must come from the same vendor class (Intel versus AMD) and the same processor family to be compatible for migration with vMotion.

This is one of those rather annoying questions. In reality, both C and D are correct. In order for vMotion to work, you have to have CPUs from the same vendor (all AMD or all Intel) AND they must be of similar feature set-and similar is vague as well, which is what EVC helps to enforce. That’s what CPU masking and EVC is all about, reducing feature sets of a CPU vendor and family to a common denominator.

Those that are saying CPU speed are just not correct. Even before EVC, I’ve vMotioned between 1.5GHz and 2.8GHz Intel Xeon CPUs (HP 740 and 760 Proliants). So speed is not the deal at all.

So the question should have been choose two IMO. Tesking shows the answer as C so maybe they know…

C is correct. It’s all about CPU.
“For vMotion purposes, compatible CPUs means that source and target CPUs must have the same manufacturer (AMD or Intel) and be members of the same basic processor family (for example, Pentium 4 or Core), and have a common set of features implemented.”
