What function does Enhanced vMotion Compatibility provide?
A.
The ability to use vMotion to migrate virtual machines between ESXi hosts that have CPUs with hardware virtualization capabilities and CPUs without this feature.
B.
The ability to use vMotion to migrate virtual machines between ESXi hosts that have CPUs with a sommon supported baseline.
C.
The ability to use vMotion to migrate virtual machines between ESXi hosts with intel CPUs and ESXi hosts with AMD CPUs.
D.
The ability to use vMotion to migrate virtual machines between ESXi hosts with different core counts.
Explanation:
Enhanced VMotion Compatibility (EVC) simplifies VMotion compatibility issues across CPU generations. EVC automatically configures server CPUs with Intel FlexMigration or AMD-V Extended Migration technologies to be compatible with older servers. After EVC is enabled for a cluster in the VirtualCenter inventory, all hosts in that cluster are configured to present identical CPU features and ensure CPU compatibility for VMotion. The features presented by each host are determined by selecting a predefined EVC baseline. VirtualCenter does not permit the addition of hosts that cannot be automatically configured to be compatible with the EVC baseline.Source: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&extern alId=1003212
I think Option C is correct.
Configure EVC from the cluster settings dialog box. When you configure EVC, you configure all host processors in the cluster to present the feature set of a baseline processor. This baseline feature set is called the EVC mode.
EVC leverages AMD-V Extended Migration technology (for AMD hosts) and Intel FlexMigration technology (for Intel hosts) to mask processor features so that hosts can present the feature set of an earlier generation of processors. The EVC mode must be equivalent to, or a subset of, the feature set of the host with the smallest feature set in the cluster.
You can NEVER vmotion a VM from Intel to an AMD cpu or vice versa. B should be the correct answer because EVC establishes a lowest common supported baseline that all CPUs can handle to ensure vmotion compatibility.
I think B is correct answer
All hosts in the cluster must have CPUs from a single vendor, either AMD or Intel.
