An administrator is working to update the hosts and virtual machines in a vSphere 5.x deployment using Update Manager Baselines.
Other than host patches, which three items require a separate procedure or process to update? (Choose three.)
A.
Operating system patches
B.
Virtual Appliance updates
C.
Virtual Machine Virtual Hardware upgrades
D.
VMware Tools on machines without VMware Tools already installed
E.
Application patches within the virtual machine
It’s wrong answer.
Right one should be B,C,D
Update Manager includes two default dynamic patch baselines and three upgrade baselines.
Critical Host Patches
(Predefined)
Checks ESX/ESXi hosts for compliance with all critical patches.
Non-Critical Host
Patches (Predefined)
Checks ESX/ESXi hosts for compliance with all optional patches.
VMware Tools Upgrade
to Match Host
(Predefined)
Checks virtual machines for compliance with the latest VMware Tools version
on the host. Update Manager supports upgrading of VMware Tools for virtual
machines on hosts that are running ESX/ESXi 4.0 and later.
VM Hardware Upgrade to
Match Host (Predefined)
Checks the virtual hardware of a virtual machine for compliance with the latest
version supported by the host. Update Manager supports upgrading to virtual
hardware version 8.0 on hosts that are running ESXi 5.x.
VA Upgrade to Latest
(Predefined)
Checks virtual appliance compliance with the latest released virtual appliance
version.
I think A,D,E is right. In my opinion A means the OS of the guests. As I know, virtual appliances can be updated with the Update Manager. Only vCenter App cannot be updated.
ithink the question meant patches not be done by VUM?
A,D,E are correct, they can not be done with VUM:
With Update Manager, you can perform the following tasks:
– Upgrade and patch ESX/ESXi hosts.
– Install and update third-party software on hosts.
– Upgrade virtual machine hardware, VMware Tools, and virtual appliances.

Read carefully!!! : “Other than host patches …”
Host patches are done via VUM, so it’s asking for updates that CAN be done through VUM !!!

So franky is right B,C,S – there are 5 baselines, 2 for host updates and 3 for vm hardware, vm tools and vm apps. I think VMware is asking for the other 3 upgrade baselines, since the baseline only checks compliance, but you need REMEDIATE in a separate procedure.
The question is update host and VM.
Pass1
– Upgrade and patch ESX/ESXi hosts.
– Install and update third-party software on hosts.
– Upgrade virtual machine hardware, VMware Tools, and virtual appliances.
so C is already done. B is irrelevant. D is not done because no VMtools are installed, so cannot update
Pass2 – A , D and E
ANSWER IS BCD

vSphere Update Manager 5.1 Documentation > Installing and Administering VMware vSphere Update Manager > Understanding Update Manager > About the Update Manager Process > Creating Baselines and Baseline Groups
Update Manager includes default baselines that you can use to scan any virtual machine, virtual appliance, or host to determine whether the hosts in your environment are updated with the latest patches, or whether the virtual appliances and virtual machines are upgraded to the latest version.
Critical Host Patches (Predefined)
Checks ESX/ESXi hosts for compliance with all critical patches.
Non-Critical Host Patches (Predefined)
Checks ESX/ESXi hosts for compliance with all optional patches.
VMware Tools Upgrade to Match Host (Predefined)
Checks virtual machines for compliance with the latest VMware Tools version on the host. Update Manager supports upgrading of VMware Tools for virtual machines on hosts that are running ESX/ESXi 4.0 and later.
VM Hardware Upgrade to Match Host (Predefined)
Checks the virtual hardware of a virtual machine for compliance with the latest version supported by the host. Update Manager supports upgrading to virtual hardware version vmx-09 on hosts that are running ESXi 5.1.
VA Upgrade to Latest (Predefined)
Checks virtual appliance compliance with the latest released virtual appliance version.
ADE
“which three items require a separate procedure or process to update?”
ADE
ADE
Baselines are divided by Hosts and VMs/VAs
So hosts can be updated in one process and on another process you can update Virtual Appliance (B) and Virtual Hardware (C)
VM Tools can be updated, *but not installed in the same process (D)
A and E are not supported by VUM
