Update manager works with Oracle and MSQL DB. So D is correct

You are correct, update manager works with either Oracle or SQL however you will not find an instance of vCSA running on DB2 in the first place as it is not supported.
That would suggest answer B is correct.

D is wrong answer because vCSA does not support DB2, so the best options is B

The correct answer is: D. vCenter Server Virtual Appliance (vCSA) with an external DB2 database

Answer A: vCenter Server Appliance 5.x and vCenter Update Manager 5.x both support Oracle as a database. An additional database server is therefore not required, so this answer is not correct.

Answer B: vCenter Server 5.x comes bundled with Microsoft SQL Server. vCenter Update Manager 5.x supports Microsoft SQL Server databases, so an additional database server is not required. This answer is also not correct.

Answer C: The same as answer B, except now the database is on a separate database server. The result however is the same; no additional database server is required as vCenter Server 5.x and vCenter Update Manager 5.x both support Microsoft SQL Server as an external database, so this answer is not correct.

Answer D: vCenter Server Appliance 5.x supports Oracle as an external database. It does not support IBM DB2 as an external database. vCenter Update Manager 5.x supports Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases. In this case an additional database server is required, so this answer is correct.

The key word is ‘additional DB’…that means current configuration is working find but if we want to use additional DB which DB server is required..if we already have oracle and SQL enterprise DB server they are smart enough to handle situation of larger infra…so option A & C not possible. Now options we have B & D…if we have option D that means our current configuration wouldn’t be possible because DB2 does not work with virtual appliance as question says additional DB so D is also not possible.
Now we have option B in which VUM is by default bundled with express DB only …that means we must use additional DB if we want additional DB.

And one more point here, option A & D asks for virtual appliance and we know DB2 can only be used for virtual server on windows. In other words if we use DB2 our current configuration wouldn’t be possible then how can we require additional DB..

Answer is B
