An administrator has two ESXi 5.x hosts. Each host has two resource pools, Production and Test and a vApp named TestvApp01.
What is true when these hosts are added to a DRS cluster?
A.
An option is given during the process to graft the pools under the cluster’s root pool, the vApp will be removed.
B.
An option is given during the process to graft the pools and vApp under the cluster’s root pool.
C.
The resource pools and vApp are automatically grafted into the cluster under the root pool.
D.
The resource pools and vApp are automatically removed when the host is added.
I think A is wrong.
When you add a host to a drs cluster you can select two case (i’m reading from the wizard):
– Put all of this hosts’s virtual machine in the cluster’s root resource pool. Resource pools currently present on the host will be deleted.
– Create a new resourece pool for this host’s virtual machines and resource pools. This preserves the host’s current resource pool hierarchy.
Only in the first case appears the warning message “Warning: all vapps on the host will be lost”.
So if you select the first case you lost all pools and vapp in the host and the vm are added to the cluster’s root resource pool.
If you select the second case, pools and vapps are added to a newly created pool in the cluster’s root resource pool.
A is right. I didn’t see any document which states that Vapp will be migrated.
Raj did you find a document which states that vapps will be deleted and resource pools migrated?
B is the correct answer. I’ve tested this in my dev vCenter, both the RP and vApp are graft when.
A is wrong because the vApp is not removed.
Does anyone have a clear answer? Is it A or B?
hmmm…
If you add the host by using ‘drag & drop’ instead of ‘Add Host …’ you are not given any options but all VM’s and one vApp were migrated, the RP removed – which makes ‘C’ the correct answer. Tested in my lab.
seems both B and C are correct – depends how you add the host.
A is correct. Tricky question! There are 2 resource pools Production pool and Test pool. Does vApp belong to these pool?
Hiya! I just want to give a huge thumbs up for the nice info you will have
right here on this post. I can be coming back to your weblog for more soon.
A is correct. http://nunesgab.blogspot.com/2013/03/how-to-move-vcops-vapp-between-clusters.html
tested it. Answer B:
Created the grafted Resource Pool and kept the vApp.
