Believe the correct answer is C since no reservation. For the pool is configured.

D is the correct answer.
You do not want to eat up your own resource pool, so any increase on a virtual machine within is NOT part of the answer. (Excluding A. AND B.)
The picture shows an existing limit on the resource pool, so all VM’s in the Production Pool share one 500 MHz limit… Reservation is not solving anything (Can the Reservation be higher (>500 MHz) than the Limit?). You would like to set the LIMIT to 0 (means NO limit). Then the only option left is Increase The Limit to the MAX.

N.B.
Total Reserved CPU Capacity 7000 MHz??? I only see 1000 + 2000 = 3000 Reserved…
The Picture does not tell everything, to much C&P to my opinion. Is there a parent resource pool Reserving 7000 for these 3 Siblings? It ain’t clear.

Mike: How much would you like to reservate if the limit of the pool is 500mhz? Do you think a maximum reservation of 500mhz will correct the problem?

Just another awful question. Increasing the limit *may* help, but all the pools have the same share value, we don’t know how many machines are in each pool nor their configurations, and without a reservation, machines in the production pool would still be squeezed by the other pools if the environment were pegged.

I believe B answer “Increase the CPU shares on the critical virtual machine” is the correct one, since Q asks for critical virtual machine improvement. It will still be constrained by the 500 MHz’s pool limit but will receive more CPU than the others VMs on “Production” pool. The limit maybe exist on resources allocation, based on departments on the business.

“Increase the CPU limit on the critical virtual machine” (A answer) will still be limited by resource pool’s limit, and gives no warranty on getting more CPU than other VMs on “Production” pool (based on shares), and that’s because we don’t know how % of the shares have our critical VM, only it’s fixed on “Normal” (1000 shares).

“Increase the CPU reservations on the resource pool” (C) could change pool’s performance, always limited to 500 MHz, but, again, there are no warranty on getting more CPU than other VMs on “Production” pool (based on shares).

“Increase the CPU limit on the resource pool” (D) will modify host schema, since maybe there are quotas defined for each department/purpose.

Correct answer should be D.

Indication for this is that in exhibit there is information for current resource allocation of the cluster. This seems to be very intentionally. And since there are more than 4GHz of available CPU resource increasing the limit of the pool will lead to improvement of VM performance. Also the expandable reservation of the pool was turned off, so the limit will apply to all child objects too.

I think correct answer is B. Question is asking “What step can be taken to increase the performance of the critical virtual machine”, NOT “increase the performance of all the virtual machines under the Production resource pool”.

Hence, with the given resource of the production resource pool, if we “Increase the CPU shares on the critical virtual machine” which is choice B, will increase the performance of the critical virtual machine.

Definitely, increasing the CPU limit on the resource pool will increase the performance of the critical virtual machine, it will also increase the performance of rest of the virtual machine also.

Yes, Stape, is true that more that one VM is being affected, but it asks for a “step [that] can be taken to increase the performance of the critical virtual machine”, not all virtual machines that shows poor performance.
So answer is B for sure.
