Which configuration requires an additional database server when adding vSphere Update
Manager 5.x to an environment?
A.
vCenter Server Virtual Appliance (vCSA) with an external Oracle database
B.
vCenter Application with the default database
C.
vCenter Application with an external SQL 2008 Enterprise database
D.
vCenter Server Virtual Appliance (vCSA) with an external DB2 database
Don’t think VCSA supports external DB2 yet.
D is correct if internal DB2
Wrong!!! It’s B people.
The question is “What config (vCenter with bundled SQL) requires an ADDITIONAL DB Server”
From VMware doc:
Note: vCenter Update Manager uses an SQL Server or Oracle database. You should use a dedicated database for vCenter Update Manager and not share it with the database used with vCenter Server. You must also back up the database periodically. Best practice is to have the database on the same computer as vCenter Update Manager or on a computer in the local network.
1> it can’t be any other DB but SQL or Oracle (so C and D are out)
2> keyword is ADDITIONAL DB server! vCenter comes with SQL and although you CAN point VSA to the SQL instance installed with vCenter it’s only a express version and wouldn’t be robust enough to handle a large VSA cluster – SO you need another SQL or Oracle DB server (full blown version) to handle the DB.
Update manager not VSA… sorry but you get the point
D- Incorrect – vCSA Can not be installed with DB2
C,D – Update Manager can share the DB with vCenter as it is not appliance.
A- should be right here.
ABC are possible so only wrong one is D eventhough vCSA is can not be run with external DB2 DB.
The key word is ‘additional DB’…that means current configuration is working find but if we want to use additional DB which DB server is required..if we already have oracle and SQL enterprise DB server they are smart enough to handle situation of larger infra…so option A & C not possible. Now options we have B & D…if we have option D that means our current configuration wouldn’t be possible because DB2 does not work with virtual appliance as question says additional DB so D is also not possible.
Now we have option B in which VUM is by default bundled with express DB only …that means we must use additional DB if we want additional DB.
And one more point here, option A & D asks for virtual appliance and we know DB2 can only be used for virtual server on windows. In other words if we use DB2 our current configuration wouldn’t be possible then how can we require additional DB..
