Your network contains an Active Directory domain named contoso.com. The domain contains four member
servers named Server1, Server2, Server3, and Server4. Server1 and Server2 run Windows Server 2008 R2.
Server1 and Server2 have the Hyper-V server role and the Failover Clustering feature installed. Failover
Clustering is configured to provide highly available virtual machines by using a cluster named Cluster1. Cluster1
hosts 10 virtual machines.
Server3 and Server4 run Windows Server 2012 R2.You install the Hyper-V server role and the Failover Clustering feature on Server3 and Server4. You create a
cluster named Cluster2.
You need to migrate cluster resources from Cluster1 to Cluster2. The solution must minimize downtime on the
virtual machines.
Which five actions should you perform?
To answer, move the appropriate five actions from the list of actions to the answer area and arrange them in
the correct order.

Is the answer right ?
According to this link, the given answer is wrong.
https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/hugofe/2012/12/06/best-practices-for-migration-of-cluster-windows-2008-r2-2012-as-melhores-praticas-para-migrar-um-cluster-de-windows-2008-para-windows-2012/
(Box 1) From Failover Cluster Manager in Cluster 2, run the Migrate a Cluster Wizard
(Box 2) Shut down all of the virtual machines on Cluster1
(Box 3) Unmask the shared storage to present the storage to Cluster2
(Box 4) Mask the shared storage to prevent the storage from being accessed from Cluster1
(Box 5) Start the virtual machines on Cluster2
The given answer is correct.
If you look at the link you provided the steps they provide are wrong.
If the section “Migration for Highly Available (Clustered) Hyper-V VMs” They say to mask and then unmask the storage in the sense that mask means hide the storage and unmask means unhide the storage. In the section “Walk Through: Migrating a HA VM from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012” towards the bottom, it uses unmask first and mask second. I think this is a typo because here they are using it in the sense that unmask means to hide the storage and mask means to unhide the storage.
I believe the given answer is correct because mask means to hide and unmask means to unhide, or present.
Either I’m getting nuts because I’m reading too much or I’m just to fkn stupid that I don’t get it….but lets try again.
Cluster1 (WS2008R2) = source
Cluster2 (WS2012R2) = target
Box 1, box 2 and box 5 are correct.
Question is : 1st UNMASK or 1st MASK.
As written in….
https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/clustering/2012/06/25/how-to-move-highly-available-clustered-vms-to-windows-server-2012-with-the-cluster-migration-wizard/
2. Configure the storage:
a. Unmask the common shared storage (LUNs) so that they are not presented to the Windows Server 2008 R2 source cluster
The way I’m reading this is:
* Cluster1 = WS2008R2
(Box 3) Unmask the shared storage to present the storage to Cluster2
Shared storage on Cluster1 is currently masked and therefore needs to be UNMASKED in order to be migrated to Cluster2
Note: Data could become corrupt if they are presented to multiple clusters at the same time.
b. Mask the common shared storage (LUNs) to the Windows Server 2012 target cluster.
(Box 4) Mask the shared storage to prevent the storage from being accessed from Cluster1
As shared storage has been migrated from Cluster1 (WS2008R2) to Cluster2 (WS2012R2), it needs to be MASKED now –> so that it’s not presented to multiple clusters at the same time (might cause data corruption) <– with migration, if we don't mask it on Cluster2, shared storage will be on both Clusters
So, I'm still convinced that the answer is:
(Box 1) From Failover Cluster Manager in Cluster 2, run the Migrate a Cluster Wizard
(Box 2) Shut down all of the virtual machines on Cluster1
(Box 3) Unmask the shared storage to present the storage to Cluster2
(Box 4) Mask the shared storage to prevent the storage from being accessed from Cluster1
(Box 5) Start the virtual machines on Cluster2
The answer is correct according to this Technet article:
technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn530789(v=ws.11).aspx
Notably this:
“If the new cluster will use the same storage that the old cluster is using, before you bring the role online on the new cluster, you must take the clustered role offline on the old cluster, mask the storage to the old cluster, unmask the storage to the new cluster, and then bring the volumes or disks online on the new cluster.”
And this, specifically in relation to VM migration (3/4 of the way down page):
“At no time should a virtual machine be running on both the old cluster and the new cluster. A virtual machine that runs on both the old cluster and the new cluster at the same time might become corrupted. You can run a virtual machine on the old cluster while you migrate it to a new cluster with no problems; the virtual machine on the new cluster is created in a Stopped state. However, to avoid corruption, it is important that you do not turn on the virtual machine on the new cluster until after you stop the virtual machine on the old cluster.”
