Where are the mailboxes created in Exchange Online?

A company has offices in New York and London. The current on-premises Exchange 2013 organization has
servers in both sites. Mailboxes for users located in New York are on an Exchange server in the New York
office. Mailboxes for users located in London are on an Exchange server in the London office.
You must migrate all mailboxes to Exchange Online. You create an Office 365 tenant and specify the
company’s New York address.
You need to determine where the user’s mailboxes will be created.

In Office 365, unlike Azure, is not possible to choose a datacenter where will be our mailboxes placed. Datacenter is selected automatically based on our location when we are creating the tenant. So if we are conected from the Czech Republic, we can be sure that our mailboxes will be in EU datacenter, but we are not sure if it will be Dublin or Amsterdam.

NO, Correct answer is A all user mailboxes are created in North American datacenters and that’s because an Office 365 tenant is limited to a single region which is determined when you create the tenant, in this case Newyork. When a user is outside the region where the data resides, it will use the closest POP to connect to Microsoft network.

To answer this you need to translate Microsoft speak. Mailboxes may well be created in the US but this doesn’t mean they remain there. Hitokiri’s second link seems to suggest mailboxes can be held on a different continent and then seem to suggest (nothing in ever clear) that it is best in terms of performance for mailboxes to be located close to where you are. I would go for A but am not sure by any means….
