Wouldn’t this be LAN to WAN?

Thought the same thing, but when you think of it this way, blocking WAN to LAN would mean denying requests saying “hey internet, give me things”, would be synonymous with blocking all WAN to LAN traffic. Maybe this is the train of thought required here? iDunno.

Since the WAN traffic is blocked, the computers in the lab are not getting the “Yes, I am here…” response from whatever destination they are trying to reach it will pop a “The requested website could not be reached” message on the computer in the lab.
