Which of these choices will best meet these goals?

You work for a small company that can’t afford to upgrade the entire environment at once.
Currently you have several small servers with internal storage on each. You desire to automate
the environment as much as possible (using vMotion, DRS, HA, etc.) so you have time to work on
other projects. Which of these choices will best meet these goals?

I would have said A. Could anyone explain why it is D?

DRS, HA need shared storage I also think it should be a. – D would allow faster communication between the Servers only.

It’s D.

You need to put in switching upgrades if u were to go with A anyway..

Cheapest solution would be to upgrade switching NOW, then install SAN or other storage solution later down the track with a full budget. By then 10GB switching would be seen as a very smart idea!!

But it wont “best meet these goals”

Wrong, the correct answer is A.

Unless you create a VSA environment using the local storage you will not be able to take advantage of HA and DRS and hot vmotion, so I think the investment should be made in SAN storage.

think its A, there is nothing said about slow network or at what level is the network, they are only indicating no shared storage that is needed for automation!!!

Please read question: Which of these choices will best meet these goals:
You desire to AUTOMATE the environment as much as possible (using vMotion, DRS, HA, etc.)
so goal is to automate not to give best boost for bucks 😛
Correct answer is A shared storage 🙂 regards

The cheapest solution is to use VSA.
Network Switch Requirements for a VSA Cluster
The VSA cluster network must have at least 1 dedicated Gigabit Ethernet switch that supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN trunking.
So the answer should be Upgrade the network to 1 GbE.
Not D, but close.

1. if you want to use HA,DRS features, you should have shared storage that is the basic requirement,so first you have to plan for shared storage.
2. VSA also a good solution but it was not provided in the choices so A is the correct answer.
